Yes they are indeed the Earth's mightiest heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU).Founded by Nick Fury, then the director of S.H.I.E.L.D[Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division].
The Avengers were first assembled by the S.H.I.E.L.D to protect the Earth from Loki and his Chitauri army trying to conquer the planet.
The Avengers carried many operations successfully under the captaincy of our old man , Captain America.
